
Doctor of geological and mineralogical sciences, professor, chief researcher of the IGG UB RAS, head of the department of Geology of USMU, Ekaterinburg.
The results of the V.N. Ogorodnikov study made a fundamental contribution to the theory of ore formation. He developed the methods for constructing geological, genetic and physical-chemical models that substantiate the conjugates formation of gold and rock crystal. Together with V.B. Boltyrov he developed the “method of searching for hidden quartz veins” and received the author's certificate No. 490062, bul. No. 40, 1975. The invention got the Bronze medal of the VDNK in 1976. When studying the metasomatic formations accompanying crystal quartz veins and comparing them with the metasomatites of gold deposits, he concluded that crystal-bearing deposits have been formed spatially and genetically conjugated with gold mineralization. In 1968-1969 the prospecting-evaluative work has been done on predicting gold mineralization at the Astafyev piezo-quartz deposit: “Predictive estimation northern part of the Dzhabyk ore knot”; the estimated gold resources of category P1, P2, R3 were calculated. These materials have formed the basis for a doctor’s dissertation “Regularities of location and conditions for the formation of quartz-vein crystal-bearing and gold deposits of the Urals” (1993).
In 2012-2013 he was the leader of fundamental research on the theme “Researches of genetic types of deposits of the kyanite group - the mineral resource base of Russia - high-alumina refractories. The results of works are presented in 15 monographs.
