Advisor of the Russian Academy of Sciences, doctor of technical sciences, professor, the RAS corresponding member, member of the Academy of mining sciences of  the RF, honored scientist of the SakhaRepublic (Yakutiya).

Professional and scientific interests. Development of scientific bases for the strategy of integrated development of  subsoil, creation of resource-keeping ecologically safe mining technologies, the development of methods for optimizing transport systems for deep quarries.

Scientific and organizational activities. V.L. Yakovlev - member of the Presidium of the Ural Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences, Chairman of the charter commission, Deputy Chairman of the Joint scientific council on Earth Sciences of the UB RAS, member of the Scientific Council on problems of mining sciences of the RAS department of Earth Sciences, member of the editorial boards of “Mining Journal” (Moscow), the journals “Physical and technical development of mineral resources” (Novosibirsk), "Lithosphere" (Ekaterinburg), the   participant and member of organizing committees of the international forums.
